McDermott to Develop Cassia Offshore Project

Offshore engineering firm McDermott International has secured a contract for development of the Cassia Compression Platform project in Trinidad and Tobago.

The contract will comprise engineering, procurement and construction as well as hook-up and commissioning of the Cassia C topsides, jacket and bridge. The contract was awarded by BP Trinidad and Tobago.

8,0100-tonne Topsides

Located 57 kilometers southeast off the coast of Trinidad, the Cassia Compression Platform will involve transport of several giant breakbulk pieces. Among these are the 8,100-tonne Cassia C topsides, a 3,400-tonne jacket and a 720-tonne bridge to link Cassia C with the existing Cassia B platform that sits in 68 meters of water.

“Cassia C is bbTT's third Cassia platform, handling gas coming from its operations in the prolific Columbus basin. Cassia C will receive 1.2 billion standard cubic feet per day of hydrocarbon gas through new piping from Cassia B across the bridge,” McDermott explained in a statement.

Headquartered in Texas, McDermott is one of the largest integrated onshore-offshore EPC companies in the world and took over Chicago Bridge & Iron, or CB&I, in a US$6 billion merger last year.

 

Fabrication in Mexico and Trinidad

The jacket and the bridge landing frame for the project will be built by local fabricator Trinidad Offshore Fabrication Co., while the platform will be sourced from an existing partner across the Caribbean.

“The compression platform will be fabricated and constructed at McDermott's world-class fabrication facility in Altamira, Mexico – where another recently delivered project for bpTT, Angelin, was fabricated,” a McDermott spokesperson said.

Engineering services for the Cassia project will be provided by McDermott's offices in Houston, Chennai and Dubai, with the project management team and procurement being performed from their office in Houston.
