Eni Signs EPCI for Offshore Balikpapan Project
Project services specialist TechnipFMC is to lead development of the Merakes project in offshore Indonesia, following the award of a “large integrated” contract by energy major Eni.
The giant Merakes development is located in offshore Balikpapan and will involve heavy-lift transport and installation at a water depth of about 1,500 meters. The contract includes all engineering, procurement, construction, transportation and installation for five deepwater wells.

50 Kilometer Tie Back
Alongside installation of deepwater well infrastructure, TechnipFMC will also handle breakbulk transport of components for associated 50-kilometer tie back to the existing Jangkrik Floating Production Unit in Indonesia.
Further project cargo will involve transport of subsea equipment such as subsea trees, a manifold, large bore deepwater high pressure flexible lines, umbilicals and distribution hardware, flexible risers, flowlines and jumpers.
Merakes Field Offers Breakbulk Potential
Eni announced a major find at the Merakes field in late 2018, estimating that the Merakes field holds about 2 trillion cubic feet of lean gas in place. Breakbulk activity in the region is now expected to increase over 2019 as further exploration and construction work is carried out and new sites in in East Sepinggan block, Offshore Kalimantan are opened for production.
Formed from the merger of Technip and FMC Technologies, TechnipFMC is one of the largest oilfield services companies in the world. Johan Sverdrup Phase 2
The group also recently announced a significant Subsea contract from Equinor for the Johan Sverdrup Phase 2 development, located in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea at a water depth of 120 meters.
Breakbulk transport for this project will involve delivery of the subsea production system including integrated template structures, manifolds, tie-in and controls equipment.
