63-Ton Components Earmarked for Middle East’s First Biotech Facility

MSC has used its container vessel MSC Brianna to ship six giant fermenters weighing 62.7 tonnes apiece from India to Oman.

Comprising a total volume of nearly 3,000 cubic meters, the cargo was transported on one voyage utilizing MSC’s Upper Gulf Service route from the ports of Mundra and Nhava Sheva on India’s eastern coast, across the Arabian Sea and into the Port of Sohar.

The fermenters are set to play a critical role in the Middle East’s first biotechnology manufacturing facility – the only one producing penicillin-G and other essential components of the world’s most widely used antibiotics, MSC said.

“Such a complex move required both planning, teamwork and expertise to ensure safe and precise handling at every stage,” the shipping company said.

The project was the latest in a series of heavy-lift moves carried out by MSC using its extensive container fleet.

Last year, the carrier smashed its own heavy-lift record after deploying MSC London to transport a hefty 390-tonne hydraulic hammer from Rotterdam to Singapore, a project the company said showcased its project cargo expertise and flexibility.
