ONE Unveils Tool to Measure CO2 Emissions

Shipping Company Says ‘Eco Calculator’ is Milestone in Path to Net Zero

Ocean Network Express has unveiled a tool to measure carbon dioxide emissions from its operating vessels, a “milestone” in the Singapore-headquartered carrier’s bid to reach net zero, it said.

ONE, the world’s sixth-largest container shipping company, said the launch of its ‘Eco Calculator’ would allow customers to measure total distance and total CO2 emissions from place of receipt to place of delivery, including door locations.

Units would be calculated as either Tank-to-Wake, a measure of emissions from burning fuel oil that has been stored in a tank, or Well-to-Wake, a measure of emissions from fuel production, delivery and use aboard vessels.

“As we strive towards decarbonization, ONE is on a continuous journey to encourage stakeholders to participate,” said Koshiro Wake, senior vice president of corporate strategy and sustainability at ONE. “Thus, the ONE Eco Calculator was developed not only for ourselves, but also for like-minded players and customers seeking sustainable transport solutions and seeking to manage their own cargo emissions.”

ONE operates more than 220 vessels with a total capacity of 1.6 million TEUs. The carrier also transports project cargo such as vehicles, yachts, small-sized aircrafts, over-sized machines, large factory components and construction equipment.

ONE will be exhibiting at Breakbulk Europe 2023, taking place on 6-8 June at Rotterdam Ahoy. You can meet the ONE team in Hall 2, Stand 2E64-F65.

As part of the event’s main stage programme, the session “Measuring and Pricing CO2 Emissions” will feature a panel of industry professionals from across the supply chain discussing how emissions can be accurately measured and priced in the breakbulk sector.
