Latest Project Expands Scope of Work in Algeria
Oilfield specialist Petrofac has been awarded a major development contract for the Ain Tsila field in the southeast of Algeria.
The engineering, procurement and construction contract is valued at US$1 billion and was awarded by joint venture operator Groupment Isarene.

Groupment Isarene was formed by energy specialists Sonatrach, Petroceltic and Enel, specifically for the Ain Tsila Development Project in Algeria.
42-month Construction Window
The Ain Tsila field, located roughly 1,100 kilometers southeast of the capital Algiers, is expected to produce gas, LPG and condensate, and to be a major driver for breakbulk activity over the next 42 months as construction progresses.
“This award builds on Petrofac’s significant track record in Algeria where we have been operating successfully for more than 20 years, with a strong record for project execution and the development of local capability. We are focused on delivering an effective, safe solution that meets our high standards and continues our commitment to the local energy sector,” Sathyanarayanan added.
Algerian Expansion
Headquartered in London, Petrofac has expanded its foothold in Algeria in the last year as its exploration efforts have ramped up. The group is one of the largest EPC contractors for oilfield services worldwide with 31 offices and around 13,500 staff.
In August last year, Petrofac won the US$600 million EPC contract for the Tinhert project in Algeria, which is expected to last 36-month and include construction of a pipeline network of about 400 kilometers connecting 36 wells, along with commissioning, start-up and performance testing of facilities.
“We have continued to grow our presence in-country through a number of major EPC and engineering services contracts with Sonatrach, including the Alrar and Reggane projects that commenced production this year, and look forward to deploying our expertise to deliver this project with operational excellence and safe project execution at the core of our approach,” Sathyanarayanan said.
