North Cargo Berth 3 Features 880-Foot Multipurpose Wharf
Port Canaveral in Florida has launched its newly renovated North Cargo Berth 3, or NCB3, following the completion of a US$48 million modernization project.
Opened in 1976, the cargo berth had been out of operation since 2014 due to its outdated design and inability to accommodate the size of modern vessels and diverse cargo arriving at the port.
According to the port, the overhaul has transformed NCB3 into an “impressive facility” that features an 880-foot-long multipurpose wharf capable of accepting a “wide range of larger vessels”.
Titusville-based marine contractor RUSH Marine was awarded the construction contract in September 2021, with work beginning almost immediately afterwards.
“Transforming an outdated, functionally obsolete pier into a modern multi-purpose berth required a lot of effort by many people,” said Capt. John Murray, the port’s CEO. “Bringing this berth online expands our capabilities to accommodate a growing diverse cargo business portfolio.”
Port Canaveral is exhibiting at Breakbulk Americas 2023, taking place on 26-28 September at the George R. Brown Convention Centre. Reserve your tickets here.
