(Americas) Authorization for Next Phase
Engineering specialist Saipem has received authorization for the final phase of the Payara development project in Guyana.
The company will now begin detailed engineering and procurement activities for the major offshore development which will target an estimated resource base of about 600 million oil-equivalent barrels.
“Saipem’s presence is growing in this country where the company has been working for the last three years,” a spokesperson for Saipem said.
Largest Heavy-lift Crane in Guyana
Scope of work will include construction of a heavy load-bearing jetty, comprising the largest heavy-lift crane in Guyana, as well as specialized welding and testing equipment.
“Saipem’s flagship vessels Saipem FDS2 and Saipem Constellation will perform the offshore installation while a soon-to-be completed construction yard in Guyana will take on the local fabrication of part of the subsea items,” Saipem said in a statement.
Located in the Stabroek block offshore Guyana, the Payara field lies at a water depth of about 2,000 meters. Construction work for the new facility has been awarded to local Guyanese contractors and Saipem has initiated a recruitment campaign targeting local Guyanese for offshore works.
10 Drill Centers
The $9 billion project is under development by Esso Exploration and Production Guyana, and will feature 10 drill centers with up to 41 wells, including 20 production and 21 injection wells.
