LNG Dual-Fuel Vessels to be Built by China’s CSC Jinling Shipyard
Sallaum Lines is expanding its Ro-Ro capacity after ordering up to six new LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier, or PCTC, vessels with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard.
The fleet expansion includes a mix of four firm orders and two optional, lifting the total number of ships ordered by the carrier to eight. Deliveries of the first units are slated to start from March 2026.
The 200-metre-long vessels boast 13 vehicle decks with a capacity to carry 7,400 car equivalent units.
The units will be equipped with a “groundbreaking” dual-fuel LNG design developed by Finnish ship designer Deltamarin. The vessels hold a Tier 3 classification and are built to utilize alternative marine shore power, thereby reducing their carbon footprint while docked.
“The decision to expand the fleet with these technologically advanced PCTC vessels underlines Sallaum Lines' conviction in a greener and more sustainable future for global shipping,” the company said in a statement. “Its commitment to reducing the industry's carbon footprint remains unshakable, and with these new vessels, Sallaum Lines is one step closer to realizing that vision.”
Sallaum Lines ships nearly half a million vehicles each year for global OEMs and forwarders.
The carrier previously laid out plans to have a fully optimised “green” vessel fleet by 2026. Alongside the acquisition of LNG-fuelled newbuilding, its existing fleet will undergo extensive retrofitting and optimizations.
The company’s goal is to be fully powered by renewable sources by 2045.
Sallaum Lines is exhibiting at Breakbulk Americas 2023, taking place on 26-28 September at the George R. Brown Convention Centre in downtown Houston. If your company is interested in booking sponsorship or space on the exhibition floor, click here.
