Breakbulk Vessel SCL Mercury Deployed to Transport 210-Ton Component to Jubail
Sarjak Container Lines has deployed its multipurpose ship SCL Mercury to transport a 210-ton condensate reception vessel from Rabigh Port to Jubail Port in Saudi Arabia.
The cargo, measuring more than 27 meters long, over five meters wide and nearly eight meters high, was the heaviest-ever carried by the SCL Mercury, a specialized breakbulk vessel with a lifting capacity of 380 tons and room to accommodate up to 516 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
Mumbai-based Sarjak Container Lines, which specializes in the niche market of shipping out-of-gauge cargoes on flatracks and open top containers, said the size and weight of the cargo required a “meticulously planned tandem lifting operation” using the vessel’s advanced gear system.
Once the hefty cargo was aboard the vessel, advanced load distribution algorithms were used to dictate the exact placement of the component in the hold to maximize available space, Sarjak Container Lines’ Anshul Dayal told Breakbulk.
The planning stage was bolstered by robust lashing, securing and dunnage to create an “impregnable fortress” around the cargo, Dayal said. Hot work procedures were deployed to eliminate any potential risk of damage to the unit during shipment.
“This successful project is a shining example of Sarjak Container Lines' ability to conquer even the most daunting ODC cargo transportation challenges,” Dayal said. “Our team of highly skilled engineer professionals, coupled with the capabilities of the SCL Mercury, empowers us to navigate complex projects with technical expertise and unwavering resolve.”
Sarjak Container Lines was founded in 2003, since when it has overseen the movement of more than 10 million tons of cargo. The company boasts offices in the key project markets of Mumbai, Shanghai, Singapore, Hamburg and Houston.
Its dedicated 300-strong workforce is backed up by a body of world-class shipping agents in 85 countries and 275 port cities across the globe.
