SC&RA Call For FET Suspension

(Americas) End to Tax on Heavy-duty Trucks

Members of the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association have called on U.S. congressional leaders to suspend federal excise tax on new heavy-duty trucks and trailers through 2021.

The industry leaders signed a joint letter requesting an end to the 12 percent tax due to weakened truck demand compounded by the coronavirus pandemic. The association estimates that Class 8 truck orders dropped by 52 percent in March compared to last year.

“SC&RA supports the FET suspension to help encourage sales of newer, safer and cleaner trucks and trailers … a controlled tax holiday to help an industry so essential to keeping America moving makes total sense,” said Joel Dandrea, CEO of the SC&RA.

The SC&RA comprises members from 46 countries involved in crane and rigging operations, specialized transportation, machinery moving and erecting, industrial maintenance, millwrighting, manufacturing and rental.
