Shipowners Urged to Submit IMO Data

Shipowners have been urged to submit data collection plans for fuel and operations ahead of the recommended IMO deadline of Sept. 1.

The new IMO Data Collection System, which came into force on March 1, requires ships of 5,000 gross tonnage or more to collect and report data on fuel consumption, distance sailed, and hours underway to an IMO database from 2019.

“We’re encouraging shipowners and operators to submit their DCPs against the IMO’s recommended deadline to ensure timely verification. As the IMO DCS largely flows from the EU MRV regulation, the reality is that the process for compliance should be relatively easy and straightforward,” said Julien Dufour, CEO of certification agency Verifavia Shipping.

Shipowners complying with EU MRV are likely to automatically comply with the IMO DCS, according to Verifavia, but must ensure that suitable data is submitted in time.
