Completion Hardware to Be Deployed at Petrobras’ Offshore Buzios Field
Global technology company SLB has been awarded three contracts by Brazil’s state-run energy giant Petrobras for completion hardware and services for up to 35 subsea wells at the offshore Buzios Wave II oilfield.
Completion hardware is used in offshore operations to enhance the production of hydrocarbons from a well. SLB said its electric and digital-ready completions would support Petrobras’ plan to fully electrify its production systems, allowing the company to reliably control a more sophisticated system in the subsurface.
“By leveraging the electrification and digitalization of completions from SLB, Petrobras will increase its field recovery efficiency in complex and challenging pre-salt reservoirs,” said Steve Gassen, president of production systems at SLB.
“This contract award represents a critical milestone on Petrobras’ journey to digitally integrated offshore electric production systems. It will improve efficiency and deploy innovative technologies in Brazil.”
Buzios is an 853-square-kilometre ultra-deepwater field in the Santos Basin pre-salt province some 180 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. The field began operating in 2018.
Petrobras, the dominant force in the development of Brazil’s pre-salt reserves – so-called because they are buried beneath thick sheets of salt, said this month that production capacity at Buzios would rise to two million barrels of oil per day by 2030.
New production systems would be installed in the coming years, it added.
SLB is a member of the Breakbulk Global Shipper Network (BGSN), a worldwide network of shippers involved in the engineering, manufacturing and production of project cargo.
The next in-person meet-up for BGSN members will be at Breakbulk Europe 2024.
