Breakbulk Team Spends Morning Packing Presents for Crew Members
The Breakbulk Events & Media team recently spent a morning at the Port of Tilbury in London packing and wrapping more than 500 Christmas presents for the Mission to Seafarers, Breakbulk Europe 2023’s official charity partner.
With a presence in over 200 ports worldwide, the Mission to Seafarers plays a crucial role supporting the more than 1.5 million men and women tasked with handling cargo for the industry and keeping our global economy afloat.
The charity provides practical, emotional and spiritual support to crew members through ship visits, drop-in centres and a range of welfare and emergency support services.
Every Christmas, many of the charity’s centres hold “wrapathons”, with packed gifts couriered to chaplains and other volunteers to distribute during their ship visits in December.
“Shipping is one of the world’s most dangerous occupations and seafarers themselves are often away from their families for months and sometimes years at a time, having an inevitable impact on their mental health,” said Jessica Dawnay, event director at Breakbulk.
“The Mission not only supports the seafarers themselves, but also play a vital role in supporting their families back home through their Family Network. The Mission to Seafarers has been there to support seafarers for over 165 years and their work goes such a long way in helping to improve the lives of those at sea.”
