Taylor to Fit Lift Trucks with Hydrogen Engines

Intent Inked with Engine Maker Cummins to Integrate H2ICEs Into Product Line

Taylor Machine Works is working with engine maker Cummins to incorporate hydrogen internal combustion engines, or H2ICEs, into its industrial material handlers.

Taylor said a letter of intent had been signed with plans to integrate Cummins’ 6.7-liter and 15-liter hydrogen engines into its product line, which comprise more than 100 models of forklifts, container handlers, wheel loaders, reach stackers, log stackers, railcar movers, yard spotters and telehandlers.

Lift capacities range from 4,000 lbs. to 125,000 lbs.

Cummins’ engines are already used to power a large portion of Taylor’s lift trucks.

“This partnership signifies our commitment to a sustainable future, enabling us to offer reliable, cost-effective, zero-carbon solutions for heavy industrial lift equipment, reducing carbon emissions without compromising productivity,” said Matt Hillyer, director of engineering at Taylor Machine Works.

Taylor Machine Works is a division of Louisville-based The Taylor Group.

The company’s trucks are used in a range of industries, including forest products, steel aluminum, ports, stevedoring, intermodal, inland waterways, concrete and precast, oil and gas, and warehousing and distribution.

Other low and zero-carbon solutions Taylor is looking to offer as part of its “Beyond Clean Lifting” sustainability program include battery electric trucks and hydrogen fuel cell trucks.
