(Global) Multipurpose Sector Continues Recovery
Multipurpose time charter rates have continued to strengthen this month, with prices having risen for the fourth straight month, according to the data from shipping consultancy Toepfer Transport.
The average six- to 12-month time charter rate for multipurpose shipping edged up to US$6,615 in October, up more than US$200 from a nadir in June. Annually, rates still remain depressed however, with price considerably below the yearly high of US$7,578 in November last year.
The firm’s Multipurpose Shipping Report is published monthly and provides an index based on a 12,500 deadweight-tonne multipurpose /heavy-lift F-Type vessel for a six to 12-month charter period.
Headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, Toepfer Transport is one of the largest S&P brokers in the city and its research department has a particular focus on the MPV/heavy-lift market.
