UTC Launches MGO Solution in Suriname

Terminal in Paramaribo Aims To Provide Full Range of Port Services in Single Call

UTC Overseas and J&L Supplies Suriname are launching a dedicated marine gas oil (MGO) supply solution from the J&L Terminal Shore Base in Paramaribo.

The multipurpose terminal, located in the Nieuwe Haven Industrial Zone, will support oil and gas operators, offshore contractors, service companies and platform supply vessels (PSVs) operating in Suriname, as the South American country moves toward a major expansion of its offshore energy sector.

The terminal provides direct access to the commercial port and supports cargo handling, heavy-lift, storage and logistics operations. The facility offers round-the-clock operations and 0.8 hectares of paved support area and is currently progressing toward International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) approval.

During MGO operations, vessels can also access potable water, waste management, ship chandling and other marine support. This integrated approach allows operators to combine multiple activities during a single port call, helping reduce waiting time and improve operational efficiency, UTC said.

“UTC has been actively involved in developing and optimizing the operational concept of the base, with a clear focus on reducing PSV turnaround time, improving service coordination, and creating a cost-efficient supply base solution for the offshore and marine industry in Suriname,” said Vincent Dumont, global project advisor for UTC Overseas.

“MGO supply is the first step in a wider service platform designed to help operators save time, improve responsiveness and secure reliable access to port support services whenever operational flexibility is required.”

The former Dutch colony of Suriname stands on the verge of a major oil and gas boom, driven by a slew of multi-billion-dollar deepwater offshore discoveries. Production sharing contracts have already been inked between state-run energy company Staatsolie and several oil majors, including TotalEnergies, Chevron, Shell and QatarEnergy.

UTC Overseas will be exhibiting at Breakbulk Americas 2026.
