Stepping Down after 18 years
Port of Baltimore Executive Director James J. White is to step down after 18 years at the helm.
His resignation will be effective Dec. 31, and his replacement has not yet been officially announced. White presided over a period of strong growth for the port as it rose to become one of the nation’s leading routes for transport of autos and light trucks, roll on/roll off heavy farm and construction machinery, as well as imported sugar and gypsum.
“Jim White is widely regarded as one of the finest port directors in America. Maryland has been fortunate to have him at the helm of the Port of Baltimore for so long. I congratulate him on an outstanding career and thank him for leaving the Port of Baltimore in fantastic shape for his successor,” Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said.
Located on the Patapsco River in Maryland, the port of Baltimore employs 15,330 staff directly and drives nearly US$2.6 billion in business revenues and $395 million in state and local tax revenues.
