Wood, KBR to Deliver Crux FEED

Wood, KBR to Deliver Crux FEED

Offshore engineering contractors Wood Group and KBR are to deliver front-end engineering design services for Shell Australia's Crux project, located about 600 kilometers north of Broome in offshore Western Australia.

The project will involve construction of a platform and gas export pipeline and will require significant breakbulk transport including delivery of topsides, jacket, export pipeline and subsea pipeline end manifold.

"This contract win to deliver the next generation of offshore facilities for Shell Australia demonstrates our unrivaled subsea pipeline expertise and offshore engineering capabilities,” said Robin Watson, CEO of Wood Group.

Joint Delivery

Services for the project will be delivered jointly by Wood and KBR's engineering and project management teams in Perth over the next 18 months, with support from Wood Group's Kuala Lumpur resource base.

"This win builds on KBR's long offshore experience in Australia and reinforces our extensive global leadership position in unmanned offshore facilities … we are delighted to partner with Wood to bring together two industry leaders to deliver one world-class complimentary team,” said Stuart Bradie, CEO of KBR.

The facility will be operated as a not normally manned (NNM) platform by Shell Australia with SGH Energy and Osaka Gas as joint venture participants.

Wood Targets Australian Growth

Once complete the Crux facilities will be an important source of backfill gas supply to the Shell-operated Prelude floating liquefied natural gas facility and Wood Group aims to build on this work to strengthen its capacity in the country.

“We are committed to expanding our portfolio in the region, developing local content by investing in industry talent, resources and supply chain. Wood has extensive experience in delivering technically complex subsea engineering projects in Western Australia," Watson said.

Following its merger with rival Amec Foster Wheeler, Wood Group is one of the largest offshore service providers in the world with about 60,000 staff in more than 50 countries. The group provides breakbulk transport services alongside engineering, production support and maintenance management for the energy and industrial sectors worldwide.
