Woolpert to Replace Tinkers Bridges

(Americas) Ohio Turnpike Replacement

Engineering specialist Woolpert has been contracted to replace two bridges and roadway over Tinkers Creek on the Ohio Turnpike.

Woolpert will provide design, survey, mobile lidar and unmanned aircraft system mapping services as well as managing the geotechnical and environmental engineering.

“The bridges are being built over a waterway and wetland, so part of our design focus will be to minimize environmental impact. The trick will be to balance any environmental impacts against shortening the bridges, which will benefit the Turnpike and toll payers by having less bridge to maintain in the future,” said Mike Avellano, Woolpert program director and senior engineer.

The project will involve removal of the existing, 66-year-old bridges and complete replacement of both structures. Headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, Woolpert provides engineering, architecture and geospatial services.
